BMSi Seminar Testimonials

"Questions addressed immediately while still fresh in my thinking process. Good feedback. I have attended "other" similar seminars and this is the most comprehensive and well organized seminar. I am especially pleased with the "Principles of Billing" binder. Very well thought out."

Nellie Valdic, Glendale Adventist Center

"I have attended many times & learn something every time."

Dotteen Fischer, Vantage Oncology - Brooklyn ,New York

"I love the open format - others raise questions I never thought of."

George Uschold, University of Rochester

"Of the few good radiation oncology coding/billing guides available, this manual is the best, in my opinion. The delineation between the different sources of information and excellent quality of graphics make it very readable and understandable. "

Jeff Scott, Arizona Center for Cancer Care

"The book is a wonderful resource. I'm sure it will be one of the best resources on my bookshelf. The history and basic info on codes are in plain English which is extremely helpful, especially to someone so new in the field. "

Helpful Billing Tip

QUESTION: A patient received IMRT from 6/25/08 until 8/25/08 for a head and neck cancer.  He was found to also have a carcinoma of the lung, and on 7/8/08, he began receiving the first of five SBRT treatments for the lung lesion, which ended on 7/14/08.  He continued to receive his IMRT to the head and neck cancer during these treatments.  What can I charge for the lung treatments?   I get a conflict warning in ONCOCHART on the billing log with IMRT delivery.  I know that it is not common for a patient to receive IMRT and external beam simultaneously, but are these charges billable this way?

ANSWER: The problem is the edits with IMRT, you should not try to do a stereotactic body (SBRT) when undergoing IMRT, the conflicts are almost total with all codes.   The edits and warnings in ONCOCHART are to advise you that you probably won’t be paid for the SBRT procedures, but allows you to go on any way.  You lose the 9924XX, 77263, 77470, 77435, 77373, 77295, 77334, 77300 codes with the SBRT treatment due to edits with 77418 same dates of service. You could appeal the case but I doubt if it will be paid.  If the IMRT course is completed and closed with an EOT summary done, then there is no problem with conflicts, and the SBRT course can be performed and billed.

Testimonial

Always a very informative seminar I look forward every year to absorbing everything that Dr. Bogardus has to say.

The Bogardus book is my Bible!  I use it frequently to answer billing questions that I have and as a reference.  I also reference back to the book when assisting hospital employees to do the technical billing.  A great tool and a must have for anybody doing radiation oncology billing.
